My POV on Developmental Delays
At 24 weeks, my twins were born fighting for a chance at life. Although neither boy had an easy NICU ride, my Baby A, Lochlan, was given higher mountains to climb.
.
As a direct result of his prematurity, his brain developed differently.
.
A neurologist would say he has brain damage, the neurosurgeon says his brain is broken and all of the specialist say he is developmentally delayed.
.
As his mother, I say Lochlan is everything he is, because of all that he is not.
.
He is nothing short of a warrior.
.
What are fun milestones for most are triumphs for my son. And because he has more obstacles to overcome, it takes him longer to earn each milestone.
.
For me, I view this route as less of a developmental delay and more of a scenic route.
.
I have seen beautiful views atop a hill, but when you are looking down from Mt Everest, the view is simply richer.
