Day 21 - Ready for Battle
Day 21 – Monday, August 7, 2017
AGE: 2 weeks, 6 days old (27 weeks, 5 days weeks gestation)
Lochlan: Weight is 1 lb 15 oz. (Birth weight: 1 lb 10.8 oz.)
Length in. (Birth Length 13 in.)
Lex: Weight is 2 lb 1.5 oz. (Birth weight: 1 lb 10.8 oz.)
Length is in. (Birth length: 13 in.)
Lex will be having ligation surgery on his PDA tomorrow morning (08/08/17). The echocardiogram showed that his PDA was not better and therefore the benefits of surgery now outweigh the risks. We, and the doctors, are optimistic about the procedure. We spent the afternoon with several doctors, signed consent and we are ready to go for the morning.
Lochlan's echocardiogram showed some improvement and therefore he will not be needing immediate ligation surgery. Surgery is not off the table; he will continue to be watched closely and will be reevaluated daily.
Lex has been able to get off dopamine and morphine, and so Kyle was able to hold him. Lochlan was also stable enough to hold today, so I got a couple hours of snuggles.
Even though we are not excited that our baby must have surgery, we view this as a step in the right direction. It's a day of progress and we look forward to hearing the surgery went flawlessly come tomorrow so we can begin to refocus efforts on the next milestone.
