Day 100 - One Last Test

Day 100 - One Last Test

10/25/17 Day 100 of Life
.
It was about a week before the twins’ due date and I think Lex would have slept through every feed and change. He was recovering from hernia surgery which really set him back and it appeared he was in absolutely no hurry to get out of the NICU. That all seemed to change the moment his twin, Lochlan, was discharge without him.
.
Perhaps it was a competitive spirit or maybe he was just missing his brother, but somehow being alone in the twin room sparked something within him. He began working really hard to take his feeds by bottle and he was. In fact, just a few days after his twin left him, he was taking all feeds by mouth. He was ready to come home and the last test he had to pass was the carseat challenge.
.
There were times in our NICU stay that I did not know if my twins were going to come home; and if they did come home I had no idea what kind of a baby I would be bringing home. Making it to this moment was incredible, terrifying and exciting.
.
That night, I said goodnight to Lex knowing that the following day may be the last time I ever had to visit my baby in the NICU.
