10/10/17 Day 85 of Life

.

We got the official word that Lex would, in fact, be undergoing surgery to repair a couple hernias.

.

This was not a shock because we had been told several time this may happen. Hernias are quite common in preemies. Loch didn’t have any but Lex had 2 possibly 3. It was time and we were ready to get this surgery behind us.

.

The hardest part for me was knowing that Lex was to be re-intubated. He didn’t deserve that. He had worked so damn hard to get off the tube. I am sure he would feel as if he was being punished, but he was not. It is what had to be done. The thing that kept is pushing forward is knowing that this was happening because discharge was in sight. Yes, DISCHARGE!

.

We spent the following days praying for a flawless surgery and I did my best to explain it to him and hoped he would understand…
