10/09/17 Day 84 of Life
.
The ophthalmologist revisited our boys to check for ROP (retinopathy of prematurity). Both boys did, in fact, have stage 1 ROP at the last exam. This time, Lochlan’s progressed from stage 1 to stage 2 in his right eye. It was getting worse.
.
This was concerning because if ROP continued to progress, we would have to look at treatment options. Surgery was a definite possibility. Although surgery is scary, forgoing treatment could be much more damaging and could lead to blindness.
.
As I reminded myself repeatedly throughout our NICU journey, we were not there yet. We were not being told our son needed surgery, so I wasn’t going to let my brain go there. I didn’t have the time or energy to spend unless we were sitting in pre-op.
.
In the meantime, all we could do was wait and pray…
